IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS?

Jane loved her job.

Most people were lucky to have one at all these days and she still couldn't believe she was paid to do this.

Nights like tonight; a rising full moon filling the crater with a light few ever saw, were the best. Heading down to the lower observation deck at such a time made the responsibilities of being a Meteor Crater Enterprises employee all worth while.

That, and her ability to surf the Net in her spare time from her Visitor Center apartment.

Responsibilities that snapped back into Security Guard focus as she heard a sound off to her right.

She knew all the sounds to be expected after hours and had come to expect nothing unusual while she made her rounds, but she had heard music to the west where the crater was still in darkness, and that NEVER happened.

Well, almost never.

There were rumors of strange things being left on the Crater floor. Strange stories that dated all the way back to 1984, long before she'd been hired. Fred, her boss, had been here forever and he had a collection of all the stuff he'd found.

Until Homeland Security showed up in September of 2002 and confiscated it all...

She had started tracking down the reality behind those stories, and thought she might be ready for what she thought would happen next.

She almost was.

She stopped at the "HIKING TO CRATER FLOOR PROHIBITED" sign that barred the way to Peter Pan Point and the Venus Massif beyond... straining to hear more.

The way she had done only once before.
